Senior Sewage Plant Operator
Grade H-5

Department:	Sewer Utility

Workweek:	5 Days per week Monday - Friday - 7:00am – 3:30pm with possibility of working one weekend per month. Subject to change based upon the needs of the department and the Township. Ability and willingness to work overtime when necessary, both scheduled and emergency.

Wage:	Per Ordinance and Union CBA – $52,790 - $80,912 Note: The definition and examples of work for this title are for illustrative purposes only. A particular position using this title may not perform all duties listed in this job specification Conversely, all duties performed on the job may not be listed.

Skills/Duties:	Under minimal direction, oversee a shift of operators with ability and willingness to provide direction to employees. After notice, potential to cover A or C Shift as needed and directed. Works with and supervises the work of operators, attendants and laborers involved in monitoring, sampling, testing operating, adjusting and regulating sewage plant pumps, valves and other equipment. Periodically inspects plant and equipment for malfunctions and needed repairs, performs minor repairs, cleaning and maintenance. Give assignments and instructions to subordinates and ensure assignments and instructions are performed and completed. If not, reports noncomplying employees to Supervisor. Hands-on direction to and hands-on working with employees to address problems and other Township duties as assigned. Knowledge of Procedures used in operating and regulating plant equipment, and of government reports in terms of data gathering and reporting and ability to complete those and other forms, both electronically and manually. Ability to analyze sewage plant operational, process and maintenance problems, and to prepare reports, maintain records and files, and to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems. Ability to develop effective work methods, give assignments and instruction and evaluate job performance and provide opinion and recommendations of current and proposed operational procedures. Basic computer program skills such as Outlook, WORD, Excel, SCADA and CMMS are desired with desire and willingness to learn and attend courses as needed to obtain a proficient level of use of these programs.

Requirements:	Minimum requirements are possession of at least a NJDEP S-3 License and experience in adjusting, repairing and maintaining pumps, valves, electric motors, and other electrical and mechanical equipment used in a sewage treatment plant. High School Diploma required but college graduate preferred. Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English.

License:	Possession of a current, valid Wastewater Treatment Operator’s License of at least an S-3 category with ability, intention and desire to achieve higher level NJDEP Licenses. A Collection System License of any grade is desirable, but not mandatory. Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and NJ CDL License or obtain and present CDL License within 90 days of hire.
