OPEN POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT 
Tree Maintenance Worker I
Grade H3 
Department: Parks and Forestry 
Workweek:  Monday through Friday, 7:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.  Subject to change based upon the needs of the 
department and the Township. Must be able to be contacted via phone and available to work emergency 
and non-emergency overtime hours including weekends and holidays, mandatory at times. 
Wage: Per Ordinance – Blue Collar, Salary range $21.74 – $33.50  Civil Service.

Definition:   Under direction, performs skilled tree maintenance work such as, efficiently operates Arial lift truck, 
climbs trees using individual climbing gear rope and saddle when required; removing and transplanting 
trees and shrubs; ensures safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed. 
Skills/Duties: Cuts down trees using chain or hand saws, plants trees and shrubs, ensures safety procedures, rules and 
regulations are followed. Uses pole shears, saws, axes and other cutting tools to prune trees or remove 
dead limbs; lowers limbs and tops of trees by rope or rigging system and by use of ropes, blocks and 
tackle to safely remove parts from trees without causing injury or damage to property; operates and 
feeds branches into chipper.  
Operates chain saws, motorized winches, stump grinders, chippers and various types of hand tools to 
remove dead limbs, wood parts and stumps; willingness to learn to operate equipment owned by the 
Township. 
Performs a variety of unskilled laboring tasks such as loading and unloading refuse, cleaning facilities, 
hauling tree limbs or trunks, mowing grass and feeding plants and trees. 
Able to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English. Understand, remember and carry out 
oral and written instructions. 
Must possess or obtain within the first 90 days of employment, a valid Commercial Driver’s License 
(CDL). Suggested CDL Permit before hire. May drive trucks in connection with daily duties. 
Education/Experience:   Highschool Diploma or equivalent. Minimum 3 years Tree cutting/Trimming experience.
